Heat Wave Sprint

by Brittany Martin

Happy Sunday, readers. Today it will hit 85 degrees in the suburban California town we moved to (Burlingame). This is almost unheard of but Northern California is getting hit with a heat wave.

I definitely felt it this morning as I continued my training program through RunKeeper. It's amazing what I'm willing to do if an app tells me to. Download RunKeeper and find me so we can both encourage each other to hit our goals.

My plan is to be able to complete a half marathon by the time October rolls around. I'd love to talk some of my Pittsburgh friends to come out and run the Rock N' Roll Marathon in October with me. I'm trying to rely on running instead of my normal gym routine. I miss my classes (especially Denise's) but it is cost effective, lets me explore new part of the area and can happen whenever it is light out!

Today's challenge was 5 miles so I decided to run along the Bayshore Trail in hopes of catching the breeze. A nice view certainly motivates! My fellow Californian runners were incredibly kind and waved each time I passed them. This is a state that loves to be outside. They work to live, not live to work.

Confession: I'm writing this as I'm settling down to my cappuccino and crumb cake at KaffeeHaus in San Mateo. Cheers to a sweet reward!
